I think Dilbert really drives this point home on the difference between “work” and “fun”:
Asok: I want a job I can enjoy.
Dilbert: You want to work for free?
Asok: No, I just want to get paid for doing things I want to do.
Dilbert: Perhaps you misunderstand the true nature of “work.” The reason your employer pays you is because work is unpleasant by its very nature. If the job were fun, the company would charge you a fee for letting you do it.
How often have we had similar feelings to our own work? I came to realize a few years back that if I wanted to get both sides of the equation to meet then entrepreneurship was really the only option.
Doing Things I Want to Do == A Job That is Fun == Entrepreneurship
Feels too simple and it’s never perfect, but, it’s as good as it’s going to get.
